Hurricanes

Hurricanes are powerful storms. A hurricane forms and builds strength over warm seawater. The air, water, and heat mix together and start spinning into a huge system of clouds. It loses energy as it moves over cooler water or land. The eye of a hurricane is the safest part.

Most hurricanes are rated by their wind speed. If the wind of a hurricane is 73 mph to 94 mph it is a Category One and if it is more than 155 mph it is a Category Five. Their winds can get up to 500 mph. Hurricanes can travel over 100 miles before dying out.

When a hurricane strikes, it tears roofs off houses, blows down trees, and tears up roads. But they do not always destroy building and houses. People think hurricanes are not useful, but they are. They can supply rain for dry lands.
